Sudbury Jam girls target OBLX berth in 2024
2024-01-03

With just one loss on their docket in the opening half of the 2023-2024 season, the Sudbury U13 Jam Girls are very much looking forward to see what the second half shall bring.

In particular, their OBL (Ontario Basketball League) season should be particularly fascinating.

Currently slotted in Pool B with only OBLX teams ranked above them, the Jam have posted a record of 3-1 in their two weekend double-headers to date, beating Ottawa Next Level (46-37), GYBA (Guelph Youth) Rep (55-43) and the Peterborough Power (67-26), but dropping a tough 34-29 decision to the undefeated Thornhill Thunder.

One last HoopDome event on January 27th will pit the Sudbury girls against Brantford CYO (2-2) and SBA (Scarborough Basketball Association - 1-3), with victories in both outings pretty much ensuring entry to the OBLX for the northern squad.

Beyond league play, the team also captured an early season Tip-Off Tournament with wins over the Milton Stags (50-18), MUMBA (59-24), Barrie Royals (62-11) and Thornhill Thunder (41-33).

The team has rounded off their schedule with a series of exhibition games against both boys and girls teams, looking to find teams that provide an excellent matchup (ie. North Bay U12 boys - a 44-43 loss for the Jam).

The 2023-2024 edition of the Sudbury U13 Jam girls team is a collection of talent as follows: Alexie Miller, Anabelle Denomme, Brielle Corriveau, Elicia Bihina, Emma DeMarchi, Kallie Smith, Kendra Nebenionquit, Mackenzie Gainer, Mia Maschio, Peyton Tessier, Quinn Leduc and Taniah Venkadesan.
