Local powerlifter and Team Canada flag bearer Josée Seguin has swept all three events in her category, represented the region and the country at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin this week.

With lifts of 55kg, 57.50kg and 60kg (just over 132 pounds), she easily outdistanced fellow medal winners Maria Manzoor of Pakistan and Narimane Houri of Algeria in the bench press event.

Her second gold medal would come courtesy of the deadlift, where she equalled a personal best of 140kg (308 lbs) after successful attemps at both 120kg and 132.50kg. Chuchu Li (China) and Narimane Houri garnered silver and bronze respectively in the F06 classification.

Finally, Seguin really let loose in the squat, breaking through the 115kg (250 lbs) barrier on her final attempt, warming up by knocking off 105kg and 110kg as Chuchu Li and Sudhamani Poojari of Bharat tried to chase her down.

With victories in each of the three disciplines, it was a given that Seguin also will be returning home as the overall combined champion, finishing comfortably ahead of both Houri and Manzoor in collecting her fourth gold medal in Germany.
