A 2-1-1 record came ever so close to squeezing the U12 A Greater Sudbury ringette team through to the playoffs last weekend at the National Capital Region Ringette League tournament in Ottawa.

In the end, however, the goals for and against gods did not smile upon the local crew when it came time for the tie-breaker.

Sudbury dropped a 7-2 decision to Ottawa in their opener, as Lauren Dupuis scored twice in the second period for the out of town crew - but day two was far more productive.

A pair of victories put the northern U12 girls back in the running, knocking off both Gloucester-Cumberland (5-3) and Arnprior (7-6), setting the stage for some Sunday morning drama.

Taylor Wragg and Alyssa MacInnis paced the attack in win number one, netting two goals apiece, with Dupuis getting the other. Against Arnprior, Sudbury built up a 5-1 lead before holding on in the second frame as Zoe Charbonneau and Quinn Armstrong found the back of the net twice each.

Rounding out the offensive parade were Faraday Lavallee, Lauren Dupuis and Taylor Wragg.

Tallies by Ashlyn Doyle and Lauren Dupuis lifted Sudbury to a 2-2 tie Sunday morning against West Ottawa, who advanced to the final thanks to a lopsided win over Gloucester-Cumberland.

The balance of the Sudbury roster features Emily-Mae Young, Kara Kirkey, Sara Levasseur, Sophia Doyle, Eva Morin, Grace Michaud, Lauryn Plourde, Chloe Savignac, Olivia Mattson and team staff Harry Hirsimaki (head coach), Lucie Poulin (assistant coach), Jessica Willis (assistant coach), Cheryl Dupuis (trainer) and Marta Merla (manager).
