Bertuzzi named playoff MVP as Rapids capture Calder Cup
2017-06-14
by Randy Pascal

Sudbury native Tyler Bertuzzi and the Grand River Rapids are AHL (American Hockey League) champions.

Martin Frk snapped a 3-3 tie with 7:19 to play, lifting the Detroit Red Wings farm team to a 4-3 win over the Syracuse Crunch, allowing the Rapids to claim the Calder Cup in six games.

Even more special for Bertuzzi was the fact that he not only scored for Grand Rapids last night, but he was also named Calder Cup playoff MVP, receiving the Jack A Butterfield Trophy.

Bertuzzi finished the post season with nine goals and ten assists in 19 games this spring, a wonderful way to cap off a hockey season that would also see the 22 year old suit up in the first seven games of his NHL career in Detorit.

Bertuzzi is no stranger to post-season success, netting five goals to emerge as the leading sniper at the 2014 Memorial Cup while playing for the Guelph Storm.
