Sabel works her way up the MTB ladder
2012-06-12
by Randy Pascal

As members of the Walden Mountain Bike Club “Wolfpak Racing” Team look forward to hosting Ontario Cup races on their home turf next month, the group continues to make waves in the Ontario racing scene.

Among the eight member team competing at Hardwood Hills Ski/Bike Centre in Barrie on June 3rd, Crystal Sabel shone brightest, moving up to the Senior Expert category after winning the first two Sport Division races of the season in convincing fashion.

Sabel, a graduate of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary, continued to dominate at the more competitive grouping, destroying the field by finishing a full seven minutes faster than the second place finisher in the Senior Expert Women's 19-29 category.

Other local highlights included Jody Waddell winning the Master Sport 30-34 race while Paul Guenette did the same in the Senior Sport Male 19-29 Division.

The races in Barrie were part of both the Plastiglas Ontario Cup XC series as well as the Canada Cup Mountain Bike series.

Many of the racers who competed at this event are expected to make their way to Naughton on July 8th as the Walden Mountain Bike Club joins forces with Chico Racing in staging the first Ontario Cup race to be held in the Sudbury area.

WMBC will then work diligently with Pulse Racing, attempting to bring the Canada Cup MTB series to Naughton in 2013 and 2014. Given that this year's O-Cup race is one of the last sanctioned events before the Olympic Games, organizers remain hopeful that some national team members may make an appearance in Northern Ontario.

Following are complete results for the Wolfpack Racing Team from the Hardwood Hills races:
