Summer Games tryouts coming soon 2012-04-28 by Randy Pascal
The "Team North" basketball crew will not have home court advantage when the 2012 Ontario Summer Games roll
around later this summer.
After competing in front of family and friends in 2010 in Sudbury, this year's squad will head to Toronto, site of the
2012 Games, battling the best in U16 hardcourt talent from across the province.
The first step in assembling the team is rapidly approaching for head coach Ken King, with tryouts slated for
May 5th and 6th in Sudbury and North Bay respectively.
On Saturday (May 5th), interested boys will gather at Laurentian University from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m., with Ecole
Secondaire Algonquin serving as the venue the next day, from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m.
The Northern Ontario tryouts are part of the Ontario Basketball Talent Identification and Development Program
(U16 TIDP), with initial tryouts costing just $ 25 per participant.
All of those who attend will receive a Nike Elite Development t-shirt and will be eligible to move along to
the next phase of the selection program.
When all is said and done, a total of a dozen athletes will be chosen to represent the region at the Ontario Summer Games,
taking place from August 16th to the 19th at the Tait MacKenzie Centre at York University.
