Clendenning medals at OFSAA swim championships
2012-03-17
by Randy Pascal

Battling a stomach flu over much of the entirety of the 2012 OFSAA Swimming Championships at the Milton Sports Centre earlier this month, James Clendenning of Lockerby managed the only podium finish for SDSSAA reps, garnering a Silver medal in the 50m freestyle final.

After posting a time of 25.14 in the preliminary round, Clendenning, who also competed with the Vikings senior boys volleyball squad at OFSAA back in the fall, improved slightly to 25.11, good for second place.

After swimming competitively at with the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club (SLSC) for several years, Clendenning turned his energies towards volleyball throughout much of his high school career, though he has hinted at making a return to the pool at the post-secondary level next year.

The bulk of the local SDSSAA crew represented Lockerby Composite, with Hayden Kosmerly also cracking the top eight. Kosmerly qualified for the "A" final of the 100m breastroke, finishing 7th in a time of 1:18.38.

Glen Young-Gregoris nabbed a spot in the "B" final of the 50m freestyle, placing 7th with a time of 35.24, just slightly slower than his qualifying time of 35.08.

The Lockerby boys 4 X 50m freestyle relay team (Clendenning, Young-Gregoris and brothers Hayden and Tayte Kosmerly) also found themselves within the "B" final, placing 17th overall in a time of 2:04.78.
