Showcasing the spanking new three gymnasium venue at St Benedict Catholic Secondary School, the Bears' Den was a buzz of activity last weekend as
no less than twelve local elementary girls volleyball teams gathered for tournament play.
Ironically, it would be a pair of schools representing the french catholic board (CSCNO) earning two of the three sets of medals as Jean-Paul II
captured gold, besting the Marymount Regals "A" team in straight sets in the championship finals.
Jean-Paul II advanced to the gold medal game thanks to a 25-10, 25-16 win over St Charles from Chelmsford in semi-final action while Marymount needed
three sets to slip past the St Denis Tigers, winning the third set 15-13.
St Denis bounced back to claim bronze, downing St Charles in straight sets as the teams completed full round robin play on Friday before moving on to
the playoffs Saturday morning.
