Team Idylwylde struggles on home course 2011-07-15 by Randy Pascal
Home course advantage did not amount to much of a benefit for the Idylwylde Golf & Country Club crew on day one of the Sudbury Ryder Cup
on Friday.
Featuring two-player tandems competing in alternate shot play, only Idylwylde stalwarts Vince Palladino and Paul Schweyer picked up a win,
besting the Timberwolf tandem of Scott Wing and Sam Yawney 5 & 4.
Traditionally slow starters at this event, the Timberwolf crew tied Lively with 2.5 points apiece as Max Kallio and Tom Cunningham (Lively)
finished all square with Guy Robineau and Matt Dumontelle of Timberwolf.
Tom Clark and Pat Laferriere (Timberwolf) edged out Scott Lavigne and Matt Bortolotto 1-up, while Jay Jewitt and
Chase Woitowich (Timberwolf) looked impressive in thumping the Lively pair of Alex Watier and Brian Ceasar 7 & 6.
Lively pro John Hastie teamed with Brent Hatton to knock off Idylwylde golfers Frank Lebreton and Jay Lauzon 5 & 4, while
Kevin Philipow and Alex Lisowski (Lively) finished off Chad Brousseau and Chris Montgomery (Idylwylde) in sixteen holes,
3 & 2.
All three local clubs will now compete in a best ball tournament at Timberwolf on Saturday, with the championship to be decided in Lively on Sunday
with eight head to head match play games on the slate.
The format provides a wonderful lead for the 64th edition of the Idylwylde Men's Invitational Golf Tournament which opens with practice rounds on
Thursday.
