Local gymnasts finish on a high note in North Bay 2011-06-16 by Randy Pascal
The Sudbury Laurels Gymzone Gymnastics crew could not have asked for a much better send-off to the 2010-2011 competitive season. At their final
outing of the year, more than 50 local boys and girls represented the club in North Bay, taking part in the 12th Annual Sunshine Classic earlier
this month.
Over 400 competitors, representing clubs from all over Ontario, were in town to vie for top spot in Provincial and Interclub categories. "Our athletes
love to end their competitive season at this competition", Director Lisa Kivinen said.
"Many of them incorporate new skills, new routines and some even move to a higher level in preparation for next year - it is a great competitive
opportunity for our club".
Some of the top performances of the weekend came from the boys program. "Our competitive boys have really made their mark in the Province this year",
said boys head coach Michelle Seanor. "This competition provided our younger boys an opportunity to perform with some of our Provincial medalists
and earn their own hardware at the same time."
"Our athletes are coming home with many medals and personal bests", added Kivinen. "I am very proud of every athlete's personal development and to end
the season on such a high note is a definite bonus."
