Nickel City Wrestling Club travels to Kingston 2010-01-21 by Randy Pascal
A nice start for the newly-formed Nickel City Wrestling Club who took a handful of competitors to take part in the 2010 Queen's Invitational
Wrestling Tournament held in Kingston earlier this month. Mitch Gagnon captured Bronze in the 72 kg class, losing a second round bout to
Ryan Blake of McMaster before eliminating four consecutive opponents en route to a third place finish.
Sheldon Burton placed fourth in the 65 kg division, falling to Kevin Iwasa-ma of Guelph in the Bronze medal bout while Chris Lefebvre
racked up two wins and a loss in the 130 kg weight grouping. In fact, Lefebvre eliminated teammate Ben Hodson in a consolation second round match,
while Rayside native Dylan Byrnes, competing for the University of Guelph, settled for a fourth place finish in the same category.
Zach Mullin earned a split in his two matches while Sudbury Secondary graduate Diana Ford, wrestling for the Brock Badgers, was
crowned champion of the ladies 55 kg division, winning three straight matches in picking up the title. A number of local wrestlers are expected to be on
hand at Macdonald-Cartier in just over a week's time as the school serves as the site for the 2010 Ontario Junior Wrestling Championships on
Saturday, January 30th.
