Lauren Hancock nets game winner in RBC Fun Tournament final
2010-01-20
by Randy Pascal

The 26th Annual Royal Bank Fun Tournament wrapped up last Sunday at Carmichael Arena, with fans on hand treated to some very exciting finals. A total of 22 teams competing in three seperate divisions took part in the three day event that caters to the youngest of the organized hockey players in town.

The Novice "C" championship requires a shootout to settle things as Philippe Denomme drills the game-winning goal, earning Game MVP honours in the process and lifting the Valley East Renegades past the North Bay Odd Fellows by a final score of 3-2. Denomme and Yanick Taillefer found the back of the net during regulation time for the Valley boys while Jake Girard and Wyatt Stitt (Game MVP) replied for North Bay, forcing the contest to the drama that penalty shots provide. In the Tyke championship affair, Tyler Roussel nets the hat trick and Matthew Gordon and Cedrick Jutras chip in with one goal apiece as the Rayside Tigers down the SMHA Blue Jackets 5-3. Braedan Watson answered with a pair of goals in a losing cause, with Ethan Marois adding a solo marker for the Sudbury Minor Hockey Association crew.

Game MVP awards were presented to Kaden Vaillancourt (Tigers) and Yanick Loiselle (Blue Jackets) following the contest. And wrapping up the tournament, Lauren Hancock scores a first period goal and netminder Mireille Kingsley makes it stand as the Sudbury Novice Lady Wolves squeak past the Sudbury Bulldogs 1-0.

Kingsley was recognized as Game MVP for the girls team while Carter Benson nabs the honours for the Bulldogs.
