New home for Martial Arts Academy 2010-01-04 by Randy Pascal
A new home for a local mixed martial arts academy will be officially christened as the Sudbury Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Academy invite
the public to their new facility in the Montrose Mall this coming Friday (January 8th). The group will be holding a "Train-a-thon" throughout the day, encouraging anyone
interested to come out and see what there is to offer.
From 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., everyone is welcome to stop by and learn new techniques, get an awesome workout and meet the team. The cost for the
Train-a-thon is one non-perishable food item, with all proceeds being donated to the Sudbury Food Bank.
The Sudbury Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Academy was established in 2006 by head instructor Steve Joncas. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a
grappling based sport focusing on leverage and technique to subdue a larger, more aggressive opponent. Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, often
referred to as the science of eight limbs “punches, kicks, knees and elbows".
For Steve Joncas, the move to an independent location is the pinnacle of many years of hard work. "This has been a dream of mine since I started my
martial arts career when I was 12", notes Joncas. "To finally see it materialize is unbelievable and I couldn't have done it without the help of my team.
This place is dedicated to them."
