From the Dog House to the Penthouse - Fastball Champions 2009-10-07 by Randy Pascal
The defending champions may have started slowly but in the end, when it mattered most, the experience was there for all to see. In game four of the
Rick McDonald Memorial Fastball League finals, no veteran was more prominent than Dog House Sports Bar North Stars' pitcher Jordy "Swede"
Dahlvick as the crafty chucker hurled a three hitter, leading the Dog House to a 7-0 whitewash of the Pickerel River Cardinals and with it, a
second consecutive league crown.
Working their way up after fourth in regular season standings this year, Dahlvick and the North Stars flourished in the post season as the league's top
pitcher posted a record of 7-1 and was named "Playoff MVP". In the final game of the championship series, Dahlvick was at his best, fanning 8 Cardinal
batters.
Troy Chatwell, Pitou Paquette and Moe Coutu all went 1/3 for the victorious North Stars while Pat Brennan Jr and Jonathan
Contin were among the cardinal River batsmen who reached base successfully on this frosty evening. Contin went all the distance for the Cards and was
tagged with the loss, surrendering four hits while striking out three batters.
The Cardinals' Pat Brennan Jr was awarded the outstanding sportmanship award for the playoffs, Moe Coutu (North Stars) won the playoff batting crown
with an average of .588 (10/17) and Jordy Dahlvick picked the top pitcher award.
