Hitmen welcome Northern rivals
2009-08-04
by Randy Pascal

The Sudbury Hitmen midget baseball team, playing under the banner of the Valley East Minor Baseball Association for the 2009 campaign, will be hosting rivals from North Bay and the Sault this weekend for a mini-tournament at Confederation Ball Park in Val Caron. The Hitmen enjoyed a very solid performance at a tournament in Orangeville last month, winning a pair of games and dropping a 4-0 decision to the Port Hope River Rats, who would move on to claim Silver.

The schedule for this weekend's Northern Ontario challenge is as follows:

Sat., August 8th - 12:00 p.m. - North Bay vs Hitmen
Sat., August 8th - 3:00 p.m. - Sault Ste Marie vs North Bay
Sat., August 8th - 6:00 p.m. - Sault Ste Marie vs Hitmen
Sun., August 9th - 10:00 a.m. - 3rd place vs 2nd place
Sun., August 9th - 1:00 p.m. - semi-final winner vs 1st place

The Hitmen roster features a number of players who have been with the team for several years, gaining valuable experience across the province, led by pitching prospects Curtis Johnson and J.D. Bryce (see Northern Life article). Fans are welcomed to attend at no cost.
